Letterman Apologizes For Bad Joke…

David Letterman apologized again last Monday for his “coarse” joke on Brisol Palin, Gov. Sarah Palin’s 18-year old daughter (remember Sarah Palin? The Governor of Alaska? Who ran as Vice-President in US this year? Impersonated by Tina Fay?) about getting “knocked up” by New York Yankee Alex Rodriguez. Palin and her supporters, the right-wingers, viewed it as an attack to her 14-year old daughter, Willow, although her name wasn’t mentioned on the monologue.

“I’m telling you, I recognize that these are ugly. These are actually ugly. These are borderline…but again, in an act of desperation to get cheap laughs, which is what I’ve been doing for the last 30 years,” Letterman said in a segment that lasted for 7 minutes.

But he denied that the joke was made for Willow. “These are not jokes made about her 14-year-old daughter. I would never, never make jokes about raping or having sex of any description with a 14-year-old girl,” he said. Letterman insisted the jokes were intended to be about Bristol, who is 18-years-old. “Am I guilty of poor taste? Yes. Did I suggest that it was OK for her 14-year-old daughter to be having promiscuous sex? No.”

After that, he invited Palin to appear on his show.

But Palin did not accept his apology during her interview with Matt Lauer on NBC’s The Today Show. She said that Letterman has “crossed the line” by dragging Willow in his jokes.

She thought it was “a degrading comment about a young woman. And I would hope that people would start really rising up and not accepting this.” Palin said “it’s no wonder girls have such low self-esteem in America when a comedian can make a remark like this.”

Palin accused Letterman of making “disgusting” and “sexually perverted” jokes about one of her daughters. She had also criticized Letterman for a joke about her looking like a “slutty flight attendant,” which she deemed “pretty pathetic.”

Yup, the jokes were offensive and not funny, even. But the truth is, as we all understood it, the joke was meant for Bristol, who got knocked-up by her baby-daddy, ultra-hottie (not!) Levi Johnston during Sarah Palin’s bid for Vice-Presidency. She was just 17 years old at that time. And they named the baby, Tripp. Wow!!! They’re so classy. So, please just shut up stupid, stay in Alaska, and stop shooting those moose. They couldn’t get any of your daughters pregnant!
